Reading without a destination
I stopped finishing books this year. Not out of laziness, but because I noticed the best pages were the ones I had no reason to be on — the ones found by opening the book in the middle, or by following a footnote I did not plan to follow.
There is a kind of reading that is a route, and a kind that is a walk. I am trying to do more of the second. I read until the sentence that matters, and then I stop and let it work on me.
